Have now had SOF BDs and VERY VERY happy/pleased with them-no issues whatsoever.
They arent cheap new but luckily i managed to buy as new used ones.
eagerly awaiting a lovely pair of para trousers from taffpara, I guess airlanding troops only wore standard bd trousers but for the price I couldn't say no!
I ordered a small bd blouse from keith in hong kong on thursday so when it arrives I will have a little bit of sewing to do, buy some dms boots and I will have a complete airlanding loadout- yay!
now all I have to do is patiently await for my mk2 sten to be fabricated (serial no 002) from tim wyborn, hurry up tim!
In the meantime I will get one of warrens No4's to keep me busy!
"Major Bernard Himmler, does the name mean anything to you?"
Uberwaller - does that mean you've decided on a No.4 and don't need me to bring the Bren to D-Day+2. Please confirm because this will help me as we've got to travel light to get Pete59 plus two tents etc in the car.

About one guy in seven got 'trousers parachutist' in an airlanding unit on average.
The rest wore 37 or 40 pattern.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I'm confused - does this mean our trousers, with the leg pocket on the side, or thigh, are actually right (albiet 49 pattern)?
No sorry, i was assuming Uberwaller meant he'd bought para trousers...
YOu can move the pocket in 49 pat to make them look more accurate easily enough.

no para trousers are very different from 49 pattern.
They have a much larger map pocket on the left leg and two pockets for shell dressings on the bum.
mine arrived this morning and they fit well and match my 49 pattern blouse almost spot on, I am planning on using the map pocket to dump spent sten mags in, although I will dump mags inside my smock whilst prone.
pretty itchy but not as bad as I had feared, roll on summer! lol!

Glad they fit
On the WW2 reenactment forum a lot if not most people tend to not be too impressed with SOF Battledress and keep on banging on about Pegasus being the ONLY ones you should buy(same with some German and US bits you should only buy x brand etc).
Stewart what do you think about the trs?
Now granted ive never seen a pair of original Airborne trs or even any Pegasus Bds to compare but to be fair to SOF they seem to me to be very well made of a very good quality serge and match exactly an original 40Patt blouse i have so whats the problem with SOF battledress??
Well for me... just look at the FFD pocket creases... on SOF BD they're not very well defined. On Pegasus (and Dickie Knight) Bd the creases are excellent.
This is basically down the the serge that SOF use not being that great quality.
Thats it really... quality. With Pegasus et al, the Serge is just... erm... nicer!
I am very pleased with my sof para trousers, they are pretty well made although I am just in the process of repairing a seam on the leg that has started to split. I got these second hand and was going to get a complete battledress from keith as I consider close to £200 for an sof battledress for airsoft use is a bit too frivalous! whereas, £45 for 2nd hand sof trousers and £50ish for a HK blouse has'nt broken the bank!
comparing the sof to my 49 pattern blouse- the blouse does have a tighter weave and seems to be less hairy but the colour match is spot on. now I wait for my Hk to arrive and hope it too matches the sof trousers.

What I was wondering was, if only 1 in 7 of us should have para trousers - with pocket on the front - does that mean our 49 pattern ones - with pocket on the side - are OK for the other 6 out of 7 who would be in normal trousers?
Or, in summary, how different are our 49 Pattern to 37 or 40 Pattern?
Sorry for nooby question but eventually we intend to get proper trousers at some point in the future....
Edit - I'm even more confused now, this picture -
- shows 37 Pat with pocket on the front, so what's different or special about para trousers?
Edit - This picture shows Para Trousers - - spot the difference (I can't).
No, I think we're all getting proper confuzzled here. 49patt has the map pocket on the side, while 37patt, 40patt and para trousers have it more on the front. 49patt trousers don't have a bandage pocket, the others do.
Para trousers have a deeper map pocket which is lined with soft pelt-leather and other subtle diffrences from 37patt and 40patt.

map pocket?! I reckon I could fit a couple of mills bombs, binoculars and a packed lunch in there along with a map!
I think it would be worth treating the soft leather as it could become hard after getting wet.

Hehe yeah, on the para trousers it's more like an "everything-including-the-kitchen-sink pocket". Used primarily for spare mags and grenades.

Very impressed with the SOf para trousers!!! In regards to pressing em....well you wouldnt so theres no problem there. Ive compared them to the ones on e bay for sale at £1800 and they are spot on!! even down to the two little poppers on the dagger pocket. One criticism is that they have used quite thick chrome tanned leather in the map pocket, so if it does get wet it will need treatment...unlike the original liner which was chamois...a lot thinenner and easier to dry out.
Ive also got some DR britches and 37BD blouse from them as I cant find any size 16 original stuff. Im impressed with it all. The DR britches are absolutely superb. My only prob with the BD blouse is that its a little long on the body.
Ah... cut like that for the fuller figured re-enactor on purpose.
If you want one 40s cut its stevekiddle or pegasus.

Aye...we arent all blessed with a beergut!! It just seems a couple of inches too long. I kow its supposed to be 'bloused' up but when Ive got a belt on it seems too much.......Id get it tailored if there were any tailors left!!!
They are around.... I know of one in Chesterfield who I think would do the alterations... But my mum also has tailoring training... ![]()
I shall bear that in mind then Yith!!! ![]()
